How Interoception Shapes Emotional Experience and Intuitive Decision Making
What if our intuition could speak through light?
Sereia is an experiential work that brings together mythology, technology, and sensory immersion as a way to explore how we feel from the inside. The title merges the Portuguese “Serei” (I will be) with “Sereia” (Siren), holding a state of becoming guided by intuition rather than control.
Rooted in Brazilian folklore, Iara appears as a mythopoetic presence, wild, magnetic, and often misunderstood. She represents a kind of knowledge that lives in the body, an intuition shaped by sensation, breath, and emotion rather than language. In Sereia, interoception becomes a quiet guide. Emotions surface as physical signals and these inner movements are translated into light, sound, and space.
The experience invites you to listen inward, to notice subtle shifts before they turn into thoughts, and to trust what the body already knows. Intuition is not something to be explained here, but something to be felt and made visible through light as an echo of internal states.
The journey asks you to trust your wildness, to follow what resonates beneath the surface, and perhaps to emerge carrying a new breath of light.
Immersive Journey
Visitors descend three sets of stairs, guided by posters that introduce the narrative. Underground, they enter an immersive listening room where water projections cascade from ceiling to floor, creating the sensation of being underwater. Caustic projections and haze fill the hall with an ethereal, mystique atmosphere. Passing through curtains, they encounter an oracle.Performance Structure
The performance unfolds in four acts, bringing audiences into a ritual of transformation—from submersion to becoming through intuition:Act 0: Ritual
Act 1: Submersion
Act 2: The Calling
Act 3: Becoming
Technical Approach
Sound is designed for spatial reverberation. The lighting and projection system operates on two levels: caustic projections created upstairs using wind, water, and light generate realistic, participatory effects experienced downstairs.Interactivity
Lights and sound respond to human presence according to position in the room—subtle, almost as if speaking with each visitor. Addressable LED lights shift with movement, creating an environment that responds to you. By the time you reach the oracle, you can finally breathe. There, you encounter a reflection of yourself. The physical setup recalls natural elements. TouchDesigner programs the light and sound interaction, making the space responsive to presence and motion. The Concept
What happens when we trust what cannot be rationalized? Challenging norms can feel like sinking alone into deep waters. Yet in that solitude, we discover what can never be taken: our voice, instincts, and lived experience.Inside this work, you are drawn into her inner world—cold, damp, strangely unsettling. The journey asks you to listen to your sixth sense, trust your wildness, and perhaps surface carrying a new breath of light. What do you carry that can never be taken?
