ALTERNATIVE NARRATIVES: Reimagining Armenian Folktales with Generative AI

I was invited to de

sign a one-month intensive lab across three centers in collaboration with TUMO Labs. Armenian culture, rich and profound, often remains underrepresented in mainstream media. This project was a vital effort to keep the culture alive, bringing old tales to life through the lens of future generations —

ensuring that they are not forgotten.

As the Lab Leader, I designed and directed the Alternative Narratives project in collaboration with TUMO Labs and the Art and Technology Center. Over the course of a month in Dilijan, Gyumri, and Yerevan, I worked with students aged 13 to 18 to reinterpret Armenian folk tales — The Speaking Fish, Brave Nazar, Anahit, and Artsakh — using Generative AI.

The lab focused on creating visuals, animation, sound, and composition, culminating in a public showcase. I guided the students through concept development and storytelling, addressing challenges such as maintaining character consistency within AI-generated narratives.

While the content produced during the labs is currently not available to the public, the project itself was a unique fusion of traditional storytelling and cutting-edge technology, offering a fresh perspective on celebrating Armenian culture.
