ASTROFIELD - NOBEL WEEK LIGHTS - 2026

During the research and development phase of Astrofield, Studio Resonans invited me to consult on the creation of an interactive system for this large-scale public artwork, presented in one of Stockholm’s main squares.

The project explored how to transform the piece into an accessible and playful interactive experience, allowing children and audiences of all ages to engage with the artwork through movement.

I consulted on the design and development of the interactive system, focusing on the real-time visual interaction using TouchDesigner. The system was designed so that the SUN aura could respond dynamically to audience movements, shifting its colors and behavior to create a living dialogue between the artwork and the public.

My role focused on translating the artistic vision into a responsive technological framework, bridging creative concept, interaction design, and real-time media systems.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

During the light festival Nobel Week Lights Stockholm 2025, the museum has, just as in previous years, carried out artistic collaborations with schoolchildren and students. Among this year's 19 works of art you will find, among other things, light installations created by students from Jönköping University, but also a work of art created by students who are only 11 years old.

Under the direction of Nobel Week Lights, the light artwork AstroField is a collaboration between 5th grade students from Husbygårdsskolan 4-9, Studio Rensonans, Rymdstyrelsen and Nobel Prize Museum. Through a series of workshops, the children have created their own exoplanets, which can be seen on Sergels torg until Sunday evening.

Astrofield is an interactive light installation that takes the visitor out into a solar system created by children's imagination. The children's own planets revolve around a shining star that transforms Sergel's square into a window to space. After gaining knowledge about life in the universe from experienced astrophysicists, the students at Husbygårdsskolan have formed their own exoplanets in clay. The Hyper Island students have since turned the planets into building blocks of a digital artistic universe – a cosmos filled with students' imagination and creativity.

The installation is inspired by the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded to Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz "for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a Sun-like star".

The creative process has included a series of workshops where the students met researchers and educators from the Nobel Prize Museum, Stockholms universitet /AlbaNova, ESERO and Vetenskapens Hus (KTH/Stockholms universitet) Hus. The project is being carried out with support from the Swedish National Space Agency.
