SEREI@ DIGITAL RESIDENCY (BR/REMOTE) 2026

Role: Artist in Residency // R&D
CloudWalk AI Residency

What if our intuition could speak through light?

Sereia is an experiential work that brings together mythology, technology, and sensory immersion as a way to explore how we feel from the inside.

The title merges the Portuguese “Serei” (I will be) with “Sereia” (Siren), holding a state of becoming guided by intuition rather than control.

Rooted in Brazilian folklore, Iara appears as a mythopoetic presence, wild, magnetic, and often misunderstood. She represents a kind of knowledge that lives in the body, an intuition shaped by sensation, breath, and emotion rather than language. In Sereia, interoception becomes a quiet guide. Emotions surface as physical signals and these inner movements are translated into light, sound, and space. The experience invites you to listen inward, to notice subtle shifts before they turn into thoughts, and to trust what the body already knows.

Intuition is not something to be explained here, but something to be felt and made visible through light as an echo of internal states. The journey asks you to trust your wildness, to follow what resonates beneath the surface, and perhaps to emerge carrying a new breath of light.

Research and Development

Selected as one of the three artists to participate in the CloudWalk.io Experimental AI residency - I  matured a concept and developed Serei@ as an digital interactive work where sensorial data (or perceived data) translates human presence into light.

Rather than beginning with a fixed definition, I allowed myself to learn from different systems that could transmit data from depth image, gestures, movements, audio within the space and build a Phygital installation that could live in any space, and transmit any sort of Human senses to channel intuition into light.

In this context light becomes a language of response, flickering, shifting, and illuminating as if intuition itself had a visible form.

Tech: TouchDesigner / Magnific / Ableton

Technical Experiments

1. Depth Anything + TouchDesigner

I build a responsive system based on proximity and distance.
In this project based on sound + light + space.

2. Stream Diffusion + TouchDesigner
I transformed simulated data signals into visual animation that would pass through Stream Diffusion and generate different patterns that would feed through light.

3. AI agent + TouchDesigner
To create an agent that can write, speak and influence visuals.
I didn’t explore this option enough as I decided to go with...

......
I realized that, for a remote resident working with a physical installation and LED lights, the process wasn't very intuitive or inclusive in terms of portability. Therefore, I wanted to create something that could be heard and experienced without needing to be physically present. So I created a sensory PORTAL...

with 4. 3D Scanning - Gaussian Splatter technique
Using Scaniverse, I’ve scanned a physical installation, to create a virtual environment that with light that could be influenced by audio data from breath and hearbeat.

Technical Approach

I used Scaniverse to bring my physical installation into digital, and TouchDesigner and Gaussian Splatter plug-ins in combination with audio data simulating breath and hearbeats that were triggering the lights in the digital environment.

I worked on a system that can be used later with different sorts of sensors, that being depth image, or audio.

Interactivity

With a mic or sound,  lights respond to human sense and presence according to the rhythm of their breath or heartbeat, subtle, almost as if speaking with each visitor.
Addressable LED lights shift with movement, creating an environment that responds to sensorial intelligence.

The use of AI

Throughout this residency, I've been trying to justify using AI. I've noticed a lot of similarities among audiovisual artists who work with AI, and sometimes I get tired of always seeing the same AI aesthetics. But over this month and a half, I realized what I actually enjoy is researching AI tools that can make my process and workflow better, help me brainstorm concepts, and give me access to resources I don't have yet or need for prototyping.

I also hadn't realized how much AI is already part of my process—I just see it as another tool. I thought it might be kind of cliché to talk about this, but in my field, a lot of people still have strong prejudices about it. Part of that is because some people have used AI in ways that hurt artists who work with copyright, or they just throw in a prompt and post something terrible, which makes AI look bad in this field.

On a practical note: many new tools in the graphic world that are now being developed in ways that Mac users like me can actually use. Before, most of them were mainly for Windows.

Other remarks

Working with support of developers building applications and logic, it was quite a distinct brain that was not so much logic envolved, but the creative process that is not always linear and it’s pretty much abstract and conceptual, with infinite possibilites.

Project Phases

This project flows in waves across mediums, places, and experiences.
It has shifted through sound, AI experiments, short films, labs, and world-building installations, each phase reflecting exploration, defiance, and becoming.

Phase I: Sound // AI — Culture Moves Europe 2024 (SP)
Phase II: Performance Art — Linjen13 Festival 2025 (SE)
Phase III: Conceptual Film — BR IFW + Rio Innovation Week 2025 (BR)
Phase IV: Interactive Installation — Unmute Residency 2025 (SE)
Phase V: AI Experimental Residency — CloudWalk

Phase VI: Exhibition at Helix Art Space
